About Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island
A Typical Day At Camp...
Each morning, Fiddleworks Salt Spring begins with fresh muffins & coffee / tea available at the snack shack and a wonderfully interesting 20 minute "village talk" at 9:00 am followed by all camp fiddle orchestra in the Pond Dome at 9:30. Elective Classes are 1 hour in duration and take place daily from Tuesday to Friday at 11am, 1:30pm and 3pm. There is a generous 90 minute lunch break and 30 minutes between each class. Each afternoon closes with jamming or dancing, and after a delicious farm dinner there is always a fun (optional) evening activity.
Meals are something truly incredible at Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island -- Chef Haidee Hart and her amazing team serve up farm fresh, gourmet meals, complete with delicious home-made desserts. All food for the week of fiddle camp will feature beautiful seasonal produce harvested daily from the farm, and locally sourced eggs, cheese, fish and meat. We eat our meal picnic style, spread out on blankets, gathered under canopies, or sitting with a new friend on a bale of hay while the sounds of music drift on the ocean breeze from a group of teachers giving an acoustic concert nearby. After dinner, evening events range from dances, jams, documentary films, a variety show, and capture the flag for the truly adventurous! You can take it all in or maybe you choose to find some down time to get a massage or practice what you learned that day... or find a private spot to relax and just breathe in the fresh coastal Island air.
After a music filled day, you can climb into your comfy bed in one of the charming onsite accommodations (ranging from yurts to shared or individual rooms), or curl up under the stars in your tent or camper. Or you can go to your own home or other Island Accommodation to refresh yourself for another day of music and community at Fiddleworks.
Our Vision Statement
Fiddleworks aims to build community (at a personal, local and global level) through music and the arts, using mentorship and celebration in a multi-generational setting (which values relationship with others and the earth).
Community is key to the success of our camps and it is our top priority. We want our programs to give the opportunity to give back, and to be available to everyone.
At registration, you will have an opportunity to donate towards a bursary for a low income family, or to select a "fiddle worker" work trade position to offset your families tuition costs. At camp there will be a sign up for volunteering, if you would like to give back by helping with a simple job during camp please sign up. It takes a village!
