Welcome Fiddle Campers 2018!
There is A LOT of info below, but it is important to read it all to have the best experience at camp and will answer a lot of questions you may or may not have asked.
Fiddleworks Sunshine Coast is located at beautiful Camp Byng, 2139 Lower Rd, Roberts Creek, BC V0N 2W6. Fiddleworks will be using the Skeena Lodge and the immediate area surrounding. We are special guests on this amazing site, and it is very important that we respect their requests:
(1) Please stay within the large designated Fiddleworks camp area
(2) No pets, tobacco, drugs or alcohol on site
Fiddleworks Instructors' Showcase Concert
Fiddleworks is presenting this AWESOME concert featuring “Trio Nua” and all the other Fiddle Camp instructors. It will be at Roberts Creek Hall 1309 Roberts Creek Rd, Roberts Creek, BC V0N 3A0 starting at 7:00pm on Sunday Aug 12th. You can still get tickets, read on...
If you purchased 3, 2, or 1 star registration then your name will be on the list at the door for entry to Sunday's "Instructor's Showcase Concert", and you can get in any time from 6:00 PM on.
Concert Tickets are still available for $21 each; you can purchase them through the webstore
or at the door unless it is sold out.
You will get your name tag, swag, and a smile at registration. You can register between 6-7 pm on Sunday night Aug 12 at Roberts Creek Hall before the Instructor's showcase concert or you can register Monday morning between 8:30-9:30 at Camp Byng 2139 Lower Rd, Roberts Creek, BC V0N 2W6-- all outstanding invoices need to be settled up at registration so remember to bring your cheque book or Canadian cash if you owe any money, thanks.
Renting An Instrument
If you are a FIRST TIME FIDDLER, or if you are trying out a new instrument (like cello) this week, you need to make sure that you have an instrument! Our trusty luthier, Laura Wallace email@example.com can take care of your rental needs and bring your rented instrument right to camp on Monday morning and pick it up after the concert on Thursday!
All full time participants, even first time fiddlers, are a part of this dynamic class. It happens every day from 9:30-10:30am. The tunes we learn from this class will be performed at the amazing Gala Concert on Thursday.
It really does take a village to make our camps run smoothly. By now you will have already had the chance to sign up for a Fiddleworker work-trade position. There are still a few vital vacant positions. If you are interested in any of these positions please contact us. Each position is traded at a rate of $20/hour.
Jobs include everything from washing dishes, sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, setting up for events, cleaning up after events, picking up garbage, sorting recycling, moving/setting up sound gear, and helping with little things that come up along the way. You will be sincerely appreciated and wow, you'll feel great about being an all-star community builder!
There are officially no more class changes available at this time. If you need to change a class you can try to do that at registration and with an offering of chocolate might have some success :)
There are still a few classes that have room for part timers who are already at camp with their families (sign up Monday morning).
Each day a delicious Gourmet Girl lunch will be waiting for you in the lodge between 12:00-12:30. (You will be given a name tag at registration which you will need to wear all week which entitles you to daily lunches).
The Snack Shack
We will be providing healthy snacks and fresh baked cookies, squares, muffins, and juices plus organic coffee and organic tea. Snack Shack is cash only.
Please bring your own mug for hot beverages -- there will be no disposable cups provided. Also bring a water bottle to stay hydrated! All water onsite is excellent for drinking.
We will be handing out t-shirts on Monday to those who pre-ordered with their registration. Tuesday afternoon at 3:15pm any few remaining shirts will go on sale.
Thursday Gala Concert
Our Gala Concert will be at Roberts Creek Hall. The concert will take place on Thursday Aug 16 starting at 7:00pm sharp (tune up at 6:15), and what a concert it will be! Please do invite all your friends and family to the show.
There is something completely wonderful (and totally optional) happening almost every evening...
Meet your fellow fiddle campers -- pre-purchased dinner or bring a picnic dinner 6:00 PM followed by jamming at 7:00 PM @Camp Byng

A movie about Oliver Schroer will also be playing at camp in the afternoon
Gala Concert, 7:00 PM Roberts Creek Hall
The public are invited to attend the Dance on Tuesday & shows on Wednesday & Thursday so please bring along your friends, family, and even nice strangers are welcome. Everyone is welcome to prepare an act for the Variety Show! The complete listing of evening activities is attached on our "week at a glance" schedule.
Come get your merch! On site we will have a store with Instructor's CD's, Music Books, shirts etc and an information station where you can get info about camp and sign up for the variety show. Store hours are approximately 8:45-9:30am and 12:00-2:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday.
Luthier Laura on Site
Lovely Laura the luthier (and her darling children) will be on site to fix instruments, rehair bows, and answer your questions about anything to do with fiddles. They will also have fiddles, bows, cases, strings and other assorted music items for sale.
We like dogs, but they are NOT allowed at fiddle camp. woof.
Instructor Changes to a few classes
Velle Weitmans classes will now be instructed by the talented Clara Rose, and Carl's classes have been combined with other teachers now. Thanks for your understanding.
*Remember to label all your belongings, including fiddle cases and books/binders!
*We encourage you to bring a recording device to your classes.
*We don't provide music stands, so if you want to use one please bring your own.
*A lot of our classes are outside, so you may want to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen etc.
*Please consider bringing your own folding chair or stool
*If you like coffee/tea, bring a mug as there are no disposable cups.
*Bring a water bottle-- stay hydrated, stay happy (-:
*Lunch is picnic style, so you might want to bring a picnic blanket to sit on in the field while you eat your food and enjoy the lunchtime staff concerts!
*Please keep your lunches peanut free, as we have several people with allergies
