Zavallennahh Huscroft

Picture
Zavallennahh Huscroft (Jaime RT) is an innovative, spunky fiddler, violist, pianist, composer, educator and community builder, putting the unique sound of Canada's West Coast on the international folk music map. She creates exceptionally evocative original acoustic music, and is a bright spark who brings people together through many diverse projects.  Zavallennahh is founder and director of Fiddleworks, now in it's 20th year, dedicated to sharing the joy of music, building life skills and developing community through innovative education & music camps.

Before entering Motherdom, Zav toured internationally playing fiddola and keys with Canadian folk legend James Keelaghan, as a duo with Juno winning guitarist/vocalist Andy Hillhouse, and with her brother Daniel Huscroft.  She has released 2 stunning albums of mostly original compositions ("Reach" & "Spark") which
have both received Canadian Folk Music Award Nominations, Western Canadian Music Award nominations, great reviews, and are favourites of CBC Radio-- including the theme song on "Between the Covers".

Zav is not only a dynamic performer but also loves to share her music with kids, through teaching and school shows. She has often been found in her mukluks and parka teaching fiddle to native youth in the Yukon & Northwest Territories, or enthusiastically working her magic at fiddle camps.  She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano and Composition from the University of Victoria, and also loves to compose and perform classical music as a violist and pianist. She is a published author (Frederick Harris Music) of the "Fiddleworks" series. Currently Zavallennahh facilitates at Kootenay Nature School in Creston BC and is mother of 2 homeschooled children.  She lives her life with a deep regard for nature, a strong commitment to community, devotion to her family, and a love of adventure.
