Welcome to Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island 2019!

About Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island

Picture
Fiddleworks Salt Spring Island is a joyful, collaborative all ages and abilities music camp running July 22-26, 2019. We are excited to be returning to the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, a well loved camp venue for many years in the past. The Salt Spring Centre is located just 5 minutes south of Ganges, nestled amongst beautiful meadows, forest and a pond.  It is also home to the Salt Spring Centre School, which will be used for some camp classes. As usual we will offer classes in many ability levels and instruments/subjects  (fiddle, cello, bass, piano, voice, guitar, art, percussion, improv, theatre, dance) while sharing in a wonderful week of music making and community.  Enjoy an Island paced schedule where you experience incredible learning and exploration with world class instructors in small classes, with time to go for a walk in the gardens or book in for a massage.

Participants can choose from a variety of classes during the week, featuring 15 different instructors including our resident band, The Bills.  There are many different fiddle styles offered, plus classes for other instruments and interests (cello, viola, bass, guitar, choir, voice, art, recording, theatre and dance to name a few!)  Some classes are all ages and/or all abilities, and others are for specific skill levels or ages.  Class sizes are approximately 8 to 15 students per instructor, depending on instructors and resources.

Full time participants must be a minimum age of 5 (with 5 year olds accompanied by an adult) and we have enjoyed having 80-something year olds in attendance too.  We love multi generational learning.  This year, we are again offering "little groovers"; a great option for 3-6 year olds.

A Typical Day At Camp...

Each morning, Fiddleworks Salt Spring begins with fresh muffins & coffee / tea available at the snack shack and a wonderfully interesting 20 minute "village talk" at 9:00 am followed by all camp fiddle orchestra in the Pond Dome at 9:30. Elective Classes are 1 hour in duration and take place daily from Tuesday to Friday at 11am, 1:30pm and 3pm.  There is a generous 90 minute lunch break and 30 minutes pause between each class.  Each afternoon closes with jamming or dancing.  Then the evening begins with a delicious dinner option at the evening venue, and each night is schedules with a fun (optional) evening activity (dance, jam session, variety show, gala concert).

Meals are something truly incredible at Fiddleworks' camps.  Our local, mostly organic vegetarian egg-free lunch (included with your registration) is eaten picnic style, spread out on blankets, gathered under canopies, or sitting with a new friend on a bale of hay.  The sounds of music drift on the ocean breeze from a group of teachers giving an acoustic concert nearby, and there is enough time for a little extra practicing or a walk in the forest before starting up afternoon classes.  After dinner, evening events range from dances, jams, documentary films, a variety show, and capture the flag for the truly adventurous!  You can take it all in or maybe you choose to find some down time to get a massage or practice what you learned that day... or find a private spot to relax and just breathe in the fresh coastal Island air.

After a music filled day, you can climb into your comfy bed in one of the charming onsite accommodations, or curl up under the stars in your tent or camper.  Or you can go to your own home or other Island Accommodation to refresh yourself for another day of music and community at Fiddleworks.
