Fiddleworks Salt Spring Information 2019

Welcome Salt Spring Fiddle Campers 2019!
There is A LOT of info below, but it is important to read it all to have the best experience at fiddle camp and it will answer a lot of questions you may or may not have asked.  There are also directions/what to do on Salt Spring, schedules, maps, etc posted in the FAQ section of the website.

Fiddle Camp is located at the beautiful Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, 355 Blackburn Road. Please note that the Centre is a retreat centre, organic farm and home to a community of residents.  We are special guests on this amazing site, and it is very important that we respect their requests:

(1) Please stay within the large designated fiddle camp area-- if you cross any fences/gates, you have gone too far!
(2) No pets, tobacco, drugs or alcohol on site
(3) No open flames (fires, gas burners/stoves) on the property.
(4) The site is strictly vegetarian. No eggs and no meat products are allowed on the property.

Fiddleworks Instructors' Showcase Concert
Fiddleworks and the Salt Spring Folk Club are co-presenting this AWESOME concert featuring “The Bills” and all the other Fiddle Camp instructors.  It will be at FULFORD HALL 2591 Fulford-Ganges Rd starting at 7:00pm on Monday, July 22nd.

If you purchased 3, 2, or 1 star registration then you will have your name on the list at the door for entry to Monday's "Instructor's Showcase Concert", and you can get in any time from 6:00 PM on.  Dinner is available for purchase (CASH ONLY) at the Hall between 6:00-7:00 as well-- the food is AMAZING, being provided by Marcus Gill (who will also be offering food at our Dance at Beaver Point Hall on Tuesday night of camp).
Concert Tickets are still available for $21 each; you can purchase them through the webstore
or at the door if there are any left.

Registration
You will get your name tag and a smile at registration.  You can register between 6-7 pm on Monday night July 22 at Fulford Hall before the Instructor's showcase concert or you can register Tuesday morning  between 8:30-9:30 at the SS Centre- remember to bring your cheque book or Canadian cash if you owe any money, thanks.

Renting An Instrument
If you are a FIRST TIME FIDDLER, or if you are trying out a new instrument (like cello) this week, you need to make sure that you have an instrument!  Our lovely luthier Laura [email protected]  can take care of your rental needs and bring your rented instrument right to fiddle camp on Tuesday morning and pick it up after the concert on Friday!

Fiddle Orchestra
All full time participants, even first time fiddlers, are a part of this dynamic class.  It happens every day from 9:30-10:30 in the Pond Dome  The tunes we learn from this class will be performed at the amazing Friday Gala Concert.

Fiddleworkers
It really does take a village to make our camps run smoothly. By now you will have already had the chance to sign up for a Fiddleworker position. There are still a few vacant positions. If you are interested in any of these positions please contact us.  Jobs include everything from washing dishes, sweeping floors, monitoring bathrooms, setting up for events, cleaning up after events, picking up garbage, sorting recycling, moving/setting up sound gear, and helping with little things that come up along the way.  You will be sincerely appreciated and wow, you'll feel great about being an all-star community builder!

Class Changes
Class changes are allowed up until 2 weeks before camp via the class change form. If you need to change a class after that time, you can try to do that at registration and with an offering of chocolate might have some success.

Lunches
Each day a delicious farm fresh lunch from Dylan Wilson of Bullock Lake Farm will be waiting for you near the school between 12:00-12:30.  (You will be given a name tag at registration which you will need to wear all week to get your lunches).

Dinners
See the evening activities list below for locations for dinners each night. Dinners are NOT pre-purchased, you will need to bring cash to purchase them.

The Snack Shack
We will be providing healthy snacks and fresh baked goods, and juices plus organic Salt Spring coffee and organic tea and yes of course there will be fruitsicles.  Snack Shack is cash only.

Please bring your own mug for hot beverages -- there will be no disposable cups provided.  Also bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!  All water onsite is excellent for drinking.

T-Shirts
We will be handing out our awesome 20th Anniversary hand-made-with-love t-shirts on Tuesday afternoon to those who pre-ordered with their registration.  Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 any few remaining shirts will go on sale.

Friday Gala Concert
Our Gala Concert will be at Centennial Park in Ganges, as long as the weather cooperates.  The concert will take place on Friday July 26 starting at 7:00pm sharp under the band shell (tune up at 6:15), and what a concert it will be!  Please bring blankets or festival style low-to-the-ground seating so you can sit on the grassy hill and enjoy the show.  After the concert we will have our community dance.  Because this beautiful location is right on the ocean, it can get pretty cool at night-- so remember to bring extra layers so you'll stay warm and have maximum fun!!  Please do invite all your friends and family to the show.
