Be a Salt Spring Fiddleworker!
Fiddleworks aims to build community (at a personal, local and global level) through music and the arts, using mentorship and celebration in a
multi-generational setting (which values relationship with others and the earth).
Community is key to the success of our camps and it is our top priority. We want our programs to give the opportunity to give back, and to be available to everyone.
In keeping with the Fiddleworks spirit we encourage you to sign up for a volunteer position during registration. It takes a village! Everybody contributing a little is what makes Fiddle Camp magic happen!
Below is a comprehensive list of all the Fiddleworker crews and jobs... as this is our first year back at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, some jobs may vary from previous years. Your patience and flexibility as we adjust to the new site is appreciated!

2019 Salt Spring Fiddleworker Crews
Each crew will be led by a Crew Director and the Volunteer Coordinators (Karen and Cat)
Monday Madness Set-Up
The set up crew will be vital this year as we're in a new space. As well as assisting with the regular set up (uploading chairs and equipment from trucks, moving gear and tents) we will be assisting the Centre staff to refresh the indoor accommodation space for our campers. If you're able to arrive earlier on Monday the 22nd, we'd love your help! The set up crew arrives at 3pm on Monday 22 July to help with site set up, chair and table set up, unloading trucks and equipment. Welcomes and directs arriving campers. Saturday Sillies Clean up Crew
Just as vital as the Monday set -up, our clean-up crew will help to ensure that we leave the Centre facilities and grounds as pristine and beautiful as we found it. Report to the School House early on Saturday to find out what needs doing. Many hands make light work! Food Frenzy Crew
Help with set up, clean up and smooth service of our delicious buffet lunch each day. Lunch will be served at the School House and eaten outdoors, picnic style in the area surrounding. Jobs include, lunch servers, bussers and dish darlings. Reports to the Food Frenzy Director Lunch Server – Arrives at the school house 10 minutes before lunch begins, cleans hands and serves lunch to hungry campers. Lunch Busser - Takes rinsed plates from the dish station to the dish darlings in the kitchen, monitors dish station, refreshes dish rinse water as needed . Walks around lunch area taking any stray empty plates. Helps out in the kitchen as needed. Dish Darling – Follows provided dish washing guidelines in the school house kitchen to wash, rinse and dry all plates and cutlery. Snack Shack Sweeties
Our beloved Snack Shack gives busy campers a chance to refuel with healthy snacks and popular fruitsicles! Snack Shack supervisors must be 19+ and be willing to handle money and supervise Snack Shack Squirts (5+, kids and teens, non money handling) are invited to help out too. Squirts will be placed on a schedule and are expected to arrive on-time with clean hands to help out. (A great way to get kids involved in voluteering) |
Cleaning Capers
Our important Cleaning Caper crew will ensure that we keep the Centre and School pristine and beautiful each day. Floor Fairies are responsible for sweeping and monitoring their allocated areas once a day, and recycling, compost and garbage helpers (pref. campers with their own vehicles) ensure that we are staying as waste-free as possible. Bathroom monitors are just that, monitors, not cleaners as the Centre has it's own cleaning staff. The Laundry Lover is in charge of collecting and laundering our ktichen and bathroom towels that help to keep our camp waste-free. All cleaning supplies are provided. Floor Fairies – sweep and monitor floors in allocated area each afternoon, takes stray items to the lost property box at the store. Recycling – sorts recycling as needed and empties recycling bins at least once a day. In charge of taking recycling to the depot on Wednesday (anytime) and Saturday at noon. Compost – monitors compost for non compostable items, empties compost at least once a day. Bathroom/potty/shower monitors – Checks areas for garbage and messes. No cleaning required. The Yoga Centre has cleaning staff. Events Essentials
If you have some experience running events or love the excitement of performances, join the events crew. "Event Helpers" will arrive at least half an hour before the event begins to assist with set up, moving gear and chairs etc and stay at the end to assist with tear down. You can sign up for your volunteer position during registration or at camp, but positions are first-come, first served.
